Cycling Holiday
For all the people who love biking, Lake Trasimeno with its flat and not well-travelled surroundings, represents the ideal destination where to spend an enjoyable and relaxing holiday very close to the nature. One of the great adventures for the body, senses, and emotions, which can be experienced around the lake throughout the year, with the changing colours and moods of the season, is biking along the great trail circling the basin. The layout of this slow trip that will show us the entire territory form original viewpoints, passing through villages, countryside and along picturesque stretches of shore land, consists of bike paths for long stretches and partly of regular roads.
The bicycle path which passes in front of the entrance of our camping surrounds all the Lake. . It is possible to ask at the reception desk for a detailed bicycle map..
Between Castiglione del Lago and Tuoro sul Trasimeno we cross a renaturalized area of high natural and environmental interest. We then go through Borghetto continuing on to Tuoro sul Trasimeno, alternating the lovely bike path with short stretches on a regular road that takes us through the towns. From Passignano to Torricella, time goes by quickly and almost without realizing it, crossing the territory of Magione, we go through a beautiful area between the lake and low hills covered with olive groves and dotted with old farmhouses. We reach then Monte del Lago and shortly afterwards Castello di Zocco, where we return to the main street. San Feliciano, an old fishing village, leads us to “Oasi della Valle”, a nature centre run by the Italian environmental conservation association “Legaambiente” where it is possible to observe the lake ecosystem in its numerous aspects. Going along the panoramic trunk road, we go trough the village of Sant’Arcangelo, arriving at the fork for Casalini, we can decide whether to head on directly to Castiglione del Lago or to take the longer route trough Casalini, macchie and Sanfatucchio, little farming villages built on small hilltops.
Holiday on foot or Trekking
For all the people who love walking during its holiday, we suggest at a short distance from the camping to walk through the places where the Trasimeno’s Battle between Hannibal and Romans took place. The way, entirely to be done on foot or by bicycle, or partly by car and partly on foot, retraces the main stages of the Battle which took place on 24th Juny 217 B.C between the Roman army led by Flaminio and the Carthaginian army led by Hannibal. The main Hypothesis places the event between Monte Gualandro and Montigeto, to be more precise on the basin of Tuoro sul Trasimeno. Several researchers have tried to reconstruct the map numbering each place where the Battle took place. .
